Blazing Alto pays homage to jazz alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley, a known figure during the hard bebop era of the 50s and 60s.
Born in Tampa, Florida, Adderley gained his nickname by high school friends due of his fast eating habits. His career began in the early 40s playing with Ray Charles at the time he called Florida his residency. In 1955, Adderley released Presenting Cannonball Adderley via Savoy Records along with two other albums in the same year. By 1958, he joined Miles Davis in releasing Somethin’ Else via Blue Note, his only release via the legendary record label. All in all, Adderley went onto release 55 records, mostly through Capitol and followed by Riverside Records.
Blazing Alto features production contributions from RickMal, Bones the Beat Head, Es-K, SmokedBeat, Stay Classy, B 3 N B i, Mr. Moods, Pawcut, DJ Mentos, and Millennium Jazz founder Gadget.
