Born in Detroit in 1923, Milt was discovered by Dizzy Gillespie, who had hired Milt for Dizzy’s sextet in 1946. This led to the founding of Modern Jazz Quartet in where Milt played an instrumental role as the group’s vibraphonist; the quartet became on the most influential jazz groups from 52-70. Milt had a tremendous career, until his death in 1999, he amassed a musical catalog that ranged from the genres of: hard bop, Afro-Cuban Jazz, Modal Jazz, Mainstream jazz, and post-bop; as a soloist, musician, bandleader, and composer, totaling over 50 releases.
